Screened pool cage with bronze aluminum frame over a pool and spa in Siesta Key, Florida

Pool cages on Siesta Key. Check the anchors before anything else.

A cage on Siesta Key does not age like a cage in Palmer Ranch. Salt air works on the fasteners and the anchors first, and the 2024 storms put water through a lot of ground floors. We look at the connections before we quote the screen.

Siesta Key, specifically

Salt, surge and wind load. The screen is the last thing we worry about here.

Salt air attacks the connections. On the Key, the screws, the anchors and the base where the cage meets the deck corrode years before the mesh gives out. A refinish that skips the anchors is money wasted, so we treat those first or we tell you the frame is done.

Helene and Milton in 2024 pushed surge through the island. Cages that stood through the wind often had their anchors sitting in salt water for hours. If yours has not been checked since, that is the first thing to do.

Wind load is higher at the coast, and the engineering on a replacement has to reflect that. Sarasota County permits it and inspects it, and the drawings for a Siesta Key cage are not the same drawings as one inland.

Questions

Questions from Siesta Key homeowners

Not here? Call (941) 961-0162.

Should I rescreen or replace my Siesta Key cage?

It depends on the anchors and fasteners, not the screen. If the connections are sound, a rescreen and a refinish bring the cage back. If salt has gone through the anchors, new screen on a failing frame is wasted. We check and tell you which one you have.

My cage stood through Helene and Milton. Does it still need checking?

Yes, if the surge reached it. Anchors that sat in salt water corrode from the inside, and the cage can look fine for a year and then move. A connection check is quick and it is the honest starting point.

Is the permit different on Siesta Key?

Same Sarasota County office, but the wind-load engineering on a replacement reflects the coastal exposure. We pull the permit under CRC1334065 and meet the inspector.

Do you use stainless hardware near the water?

Yes. On the Key we specify stainless fasteners and treat the anchor points, because standard hardware is where salt gets in first.

How long does the work take?

A panel repair is usually one visit. Where a permit is involved, most projects finish within 20 business days of the permit being issued.
