Pool cages in Punta Gorda. Where Ian came ashore.
On the Isles a cage stands over salt water on a seawall lot, and the connections take the punishment long before the screen does. We check the anchors first, engineer replacements for the wind load at your address, and put Phifer mesh on what we build.
Punta Gorda, specifically
Seawall lots, tall spans and a wind zone that the drawings have to respect.
Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles are canal lots with seawalls and, on the sailboat-access streets, cages built tall to keep the water view open. Tall spans and salt are a hard combination: the fasteners and the anchor points corrode from the inside while the aluminum still looks fine. We treat the connections or we tell you the frame is done.
Ian made landfall just west of here on 28 September 2022 as a Category 4. Cages that survived the wind often had their anchors under salt water for hours, and a cage can look sound for a year afterwards and then start to move. If yours has not been checked since, that is the honest place to start.
A replacement here is an engineered, permitted structure. Charlotte County wants signed drawings for the wind load at the address, not a template, and it inspects at the end. We pull the permit under CRC1334065 and meet the inspector. In the historic district and in the deed-restricted communities we prepare the architectural submittal as well.
Panoramic spans cost more, and they are worth it here. Taking the horizontal cross-bars out of the bays facing the canal is a structural upgrade, not a finish option. It is what separates a cage in the middle of the price range from one at the top.
What we do in Punta Gorda
Four jobs, in the order worth considering them
Cheapest first. It is the order that has kept us busy since 2017.
Replacement
Corroded, storm-damaged or simply too small. Engineered for the span, permitted and inspected.
Panoramic conversion
Remove the cross-bars cutting the lake or the golf course into strips. A structural upgrade, not a screen change.
Motorized screens
For the opening you want closed in the evening and fully open the rest of the time.
Rescreen & refinish
When the frame is fine and only the mesh or the finish has aged.

How much does a new pool cage cost in Punta Gorda?
A new engineered enclosure is a five-figure project; most run between $12,000 and $25,000, and large or panoramic cages run higher. Footprint, height, roof style, screen and the condition of the deck all move the number, and on seawall lots the anchor work moves it most.
We measure on site and send a written, itemized quote you can compare line for line.
My cage survived Ian. Does it still need checking?
Yes, if water reached it. Anchors that sat in salt water corrode from the inside and the cage can hold for a season and then move. A connection check is quick, and it is the difference between a rescreen and a rebuild.
Can you take the bars out of the view?
On the canal side, usually yes. Removing the horizontal cross-bars for tall picture-window bays is a structural change: the span has to be engineered for it and the drawings have to show it. We quote it as its own line so you can decide.
Do you handle the permit and the HOA?
Yes. Engineered drawings, the Charlotte County building permit, the inspection, and the architectural submittal where the community requires one. All under our license, CRC1334065.
How long does it take?
Once the permit is issued, most projects finish within 20 business days. The county issues on its own schedule, usually two to six weeks, which is why we start the drawings and the HOA package early.
